Join Keep Splott Tidy for the first litter pick of the year

Local group Keep Splott Tidy, AKA the Wombles of Splott, will be out this Saturday the 26th January on their first community litter-pick of the year and are inviting you to join them.

Keep Splott Tidy was set up in August 2016 at the request of local residents who wanted to get more involved in their local community and help keep the streets clean.  Since then the group has gone from strength to strength with 20 – 30 volunteers meeting up on the last weekend of every month in different locations around Splott.  Over 800 bags of litter have been collected in the two-and-a-bit years since they began and a plea by the organisers to Cardiff Council resulted in green bags being stocked in the Co-Op on Splott Road as well as the STAR Hub.

For many, the litter pick is more than just a street clean and is a chance to catch up with neighbours and make new friends.  Many of the volunteers pop to the Imperial Cafe on Splott Road for a late brekkie after their hard work.

This Saturday’s pick starts at 10am on Horwood Close.  Equipment is provided and time credits are available to volunteers (one time credit for every hour of volunteering).  Time credits can be spent in loads of locations in South Wales, including the STAR Hub.

The organisers hope that people who may not have ventured out before will join them this Saturday to take part in a worthy cause, help make Splott even tidier than ever and have a bit of fun at the same time!

Follow Keep Splott Tidy on Twitter or Facebook for more information and to find out when the next litter-pick is taking place.
