According to the 2011 census, 13,261 people live in Splott, making it one of the smaller Cardiff wards and housing a fraction of the 346,090 people living in the city.  This is an increase of 1,187 people in ten years, up from 12,074 according to the 2001 census.

Neighbouring Adamsdown is smaller still with a population of 10,371, while on the other side of the Taff, Grangetown is one of the larger wards with 19,385 residents.

The highest percentage of Splott residents fall into the 30-44 years age bracket (24.6%) followed by 45-59 years (17%) and 25-29 years (10.6%).

There are 5,683 households in Splott, again according to the 2011 census data.

Area

The electoral ward of Splott is situated in East Cardiff and part of the southern Cardiff arc.  Splott is bordered by Adamsdown to the north, Butetown to the West and Rumney to the East.  The edges of Splott also touch Penylan and Trowbridge.

History

Splott was built in the late 19th century on the land of two farms, called Upper Splott and Lower Splott.
