Local volunteer launches fundraiser for much-needed community van

Local group, Splott Community Volunteers, is seeking help in raising money to purchase a van to help deliver two breakfast clubs in Splott.

Group member, Angela Bullard, has launched a fundraising initiative on Facebook, saying:

“We want to purchase a van in order to collect the food donated by local supermarkets to run our Community Bteakfast Club. We help our community to grow and support one another by providing a place of social and ethnic inclusion where breakfast can be taken with the neighbours and assistance and friendship is available for community members in food poverty or social isolation.”

Splott Community Volunteers’ Breakfast Club is a volunteer-run initiative serving hot breakfasts to around 45 people every Wednesday at Oasis Centre, Splott Road, and Thursday at The Old Splott Library, Singleton Road, both between 8-10am.

The initial idea for Breakfast Club was to help the homeless and disadvantaged in the community but it soon became popular for anyone wishing to attend and has stimulated existing relationships and fostered new ones, creating a warm community spirit.

Up to 12 volunteers are involved each week, collecting/delivering food, setting up and clearing the rooms, as well as preparation and serving of food.  Nothing goes to waste and anything left over is donated to Oasis and Rainbow of Hope.

Splott Community Volunteers also run events in the community, including summer festivals and Halloween parties for families.  We are really lucky to have them!

To help these amazing group of hard-working volunteers buy a van so that they can continue to provide this wonderful service in Splott, donate here.

If you would like to take breakfast with your neighbours, or volunteer with Breakfast Club, please come along any Wednesday or Thursday morning, or get in touch with Angela Bullard on splottcommvols@virginmedia.com.
