A Hustings is a meeting at which candidates in an election address potential voters.
On the 6th of May, people in Wales will take to the polls to vote for their preferred Senedd representative and parties are currently campaigning across the country to try and secure support.
People are passionate about many different topics and issues and each party has a manifesto laying out their priorities and promises that they will deliver if they are elected (in theory).
Tackling climate change and securing environmental protection in Wales is considered hugely important by a large percentage of the Welsh population and Friends of the Earth Cardiff have teamed up with Greenpeace Cardiff and UK Student Climate Network to ask candidates standing at the Senedd Elections across Cardiff’s four constituencies to set out their vision for climate action and a green and fair recovery.
They will be challenging one representative candidate from each party to explain how they and their party will prioritise tackling the climate and ecological emergency both in Cardiff and across Wales if elected.
The event is free to join and participate in via Zoom and it will also be live streamed on Facebook. The hustings seeks to reach as diverse an audience as possible across age groups and backgrounds, so please share the event across your networks and help us engage with voters who may not typically have the chance to engage in environmental issues.
As well as set questions for the panellists organisers will be opening up the second half of the hustings to questions from the audience sent in via the Zoom chat or live stream.
The candidates are:
- Jenny Rathbone (Labour) – Cardiff Central
- Alex Wilson (Liberal Democrats) – Cardiff South
- Rhys Ab Owen (Plaid Cymru) – Cardiff West
- Neil McEvoy (Propel) – Cardiff West
- Helen Westhead (Green Party) – Cardiff South
- Calum Davies (Conservatives) – Cardiff Central
