Hurrah! The clocks go forward, the evenings are lighter and the daffs are in bloom. It’s a welcome return to Spring in Splott.

Friday 7th March – Cuppa with a Councillor – 11am – 12noon
On the first Friday of the month, Splott Councillor, Ed Stubbs, hosts an informal surgery at Splott Community Volunteers where residents can have a chat over a hot drinks and a snack.
The activity takes place between 11am and 12noon and no booking is required.
Sometimes the session gets busy and there may be a wait of up to 50 minutes (but there is plenty of tea and cake for everyone!).

Fantastic community event at Railway Gardens.

Saturday 8th March – A Time to Share – 6-8pm
Over the bridge in Adamsdown, celebrate International Women’s Day with Bridging the Gap

Where – Nofit State Community, 4 Elms Rd, Cardiff
What – brilliant acts, drinks and nibbles, chat and social time
Who – poets, aerialists, storytellers, singers. A plethora of strong amazing women

Friday 21st March – Afternoon Tea Dance – 1pm-3pm
Back again for another spin around the dance floor it’s the Splott Community Volunteers’ monthly afternoon tea dance for residents over the age of 65.
Completely free thanks to grant funding from the McCarthy Stone Foundation and the Barchester Foundation, the afternoon tea dances include a smashing spread and fun live music.

Saturday 29th March – Keep Splott Tidy tackles Horwood Close
The Wombles of Splott will be out at the end of the month for their next community litter pick as part of the annual Great Big Spring Clean.
Join them on Saturday 29th March at 10am at the entrance to Horwood Close (opposite the old Moorland Hotel).

Winter Warm Clubs at Splott Community Volunteers
Thanks to funding from the Welsh Government Warm Places Grant 2025 administered by Cardiff Council, we are happy to announce that our Winter Warm Club returns on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from January through to the end of March. Join us for free hot drinks and snacks and to access our pet food bank, period dignity stand, wifi and printer. We have books to read, games to play and our charity shop will be open. Please spread the word.

Slimming World
Want to lose weight this new year? Splott Slimming World runs at Splott Community Volunteers’ space at the back of the STAR Centre, Splott Road, every Monday morning and evening (9am – 10am and 5pm – 6pm).

Worry Club
What’s on your mind, Splott? Are things getting you down? Concerned about rising costs? Having a tough time, or worried about friends or family? Splott Community Volunteers has an open drop-in session called the Monday Worry Club where you can pop in for a cuppa and a chat and maybe find some help or sign-posting to those who can lend a helping hand.

Oaks and Acorns – All Age Community Meet Up
At Redeemer Church on Railway Street (just behind Splott Road). Includes snacks and drinks for children.

Tuesdays
Coffee Morning
Every Tuesday morning in term time, a community group at St Philip’s Church on Tweedsmuir Road in Tremorfa provides free coffee and cake and the chance to chat.

Boys’ Club
Rhiannon will be Running the sessions at Boomerang starting Tuesday 21st January from 4.15pm – 5.45pm – cost is £1.50 per child.
First Session will involve some brain storming and bubble chart for 20mins or so – please ask them to think about what they would like to do at the session and we can work through the ideas this year.
We are also planning on having the Xbox set up – we only have 1 at the moment so if anyone is getting rid of an Xbox or PlayStation. Please let me know. Thankyou
We will also be reaching out for volunteers to help with running the session and also one off help with some life skills and anything you think you can teach them.

Children’s Art
A new community project has launched at NoFit State as part of their Community Creative Space and runs every Tuesday. The project is for the communities of Splott, Adamsdown, Tremorfa, Refugees + Asylum Seekers, People in Supported Housing + The Traveller Communities. The activity is FREE + DROP IN
Children’s art session (8+) with Angharad (Welsh speaking Artist) + supported by Playworkers Seren in the Community. Local children + young people welcome, especially those who may not be in school or on a reduced timetable.
This session takes place within community space which also offers, free food, drinks and after-school family circus session.

Celf Cymraeg
A new community project has launched at NoFit State as part of their Community Creative Space and runs every Tuesday. The project is for the communities of Splott, Adamsdown, Tremorfa, Refugees + Asylum Seekers, People in Supported Housing + The Traveller Communities. The activity is FREE + DROP IN
Celf Cymraeg is a Welsh language creative project for local young adults (18-30) to learn drawing from life skills with clothed models from the drag + circus community. This aims to be a safe and welcoming space for young people from the neuro diverse and LGBTQ+ community, though any local young people aged between 18-30 can attend.
This session takes place within community space which also offers, free food, drinks and after-school family circus session.

Welsh Club
Welsh learners’ practice group at Railway Gardens on Tuesday afternoons!

Baby & Parent
At 1.30 on Tuesdays at Railway Gardens there’s Baby & Parent Support Group for free. Pop along and meet other parents and other babies! Find them at the top of Adeline Street off Railway Street.

GoodShed
Do you have a handy skill to share? Pop along to the GoodShed at Railway Gardens between 2pm and 4pm to build stuff and drink tea!

Feed & Read Afterschool Club
Thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, Splott Community Volunteers has launched a free afternoon reading club for children age 10-13. Feed & Read will run on Tuesday afternoons during term-time between 4.15pm and 5.45pm at the charity’s centre at the back of the STAR Leisure Centre (entry via the gates on Railway Street opposite A1 Tyres). They will provide participants with food and drink, and a copy of the chosen book for the group reading session (starting off with the illustrated version of The Worlds We Leave Behind). Participants can access wifi and have use of a printer to help with homework. Staff and volunteers will be present to supervise and assist as they aim to help children develop a love of reading and access to a safe, quiet place to do their homework.

Wednesdays
Join Splott Community Volunteers for Knit and Natter between 10am and 12 noon for a cuppa and a cake and learn some new knitting skills while having a chat. Refreshments provided for free. Also, once a month, there will be a mobile wool and embroidery shop, Wool on Wheels, joining them.
Forces of Nature after school nature club for children runs at Railway Gardens from 3.15pm to 4.30pm. Find out more here. No need to book though -just pop along (and there’s a free snack for kids).
Splo-Down, a food cooperative operating from a container at the back of the old STAR Leisure Centre on Splott Road offer great quality and value for money bags of fresh veg for affordable prices between 5pm and 7pm. Pay what you can. More information here.

Hula Hoop Class
Join The Sparklettes for a fun and energetic Hula Hoop Class at the Old Splott Library! Here’s the lowdown:
Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, come and learn new tricks, meet new friends, and get a great workout. Our experienced instructors will guide you through the basics and help you master more advanced moves. Thursdays
For £4 at the Splott Community Volunteers’ Breakfast Club you can get a hot cooked breakfast and a bag of 10 items from their food pantry, including a fridge item, freezer item and tinned goods, fried goods and fresh fruit & veg. Find them at the back of the old STAR Leisure Centre on Splott Road, entry opposite A1 Tyres on Railway Street.

There are two cool activities at Railway Gardens on a Thursday morning: Tai Chi at 10am and Creative Writing at 10.30am. Find out more here.
There is also stay and play Thursday afternoons at the new flying start unit in Moorland School 1.15-2.45. This is mostly outside in moorland park if the weather is good. There are snacks and drinks for children.
Fridays
Digital skills at Splott Community Volunteers runs from 10am to 12 noon and is open to all, regardless of abilities. Come in for a cuppa and a cake and get help from the Cardiff Council digital skills team.

Every Saturday morning, an amazing group of volunteers gathers in Tremorfa Park to host the weekly Tremorfa Park Run.

From Sat 12th Oct Samba Galez are going to be running free weekly half hour fun drum sessions from 10.30-11.00 at Willows High School Tremorfa, Cardiff CF 24 2YE.
No need to book, just pop along, bring a friend and try out different instruments and rhythms.
