Councillor Jane Henshaw can never be replaced, that much is clear. She was dear to our community, and will be greatly missed.
Her recent, sudden, passing from cancer after a short illness saddened and shocked many residents of Splott and Tremorfa and left them feeling quite bereft.
It’s not nice to have to think about a replacement for Jane so soon after loosing her, but that’s what residents face, as a bi-election will be held on the 5th of December to elect a third ward councillor to join Labour councillors Ed Stubbs and Huw Thomas in representing Splott, Tremorfa and Pengam Green.
According to WhoCanIVoteFor, there are seven candidates for this position. The official candidate list will be published after 11 November 2024, and I will update the article afterwards.
All candidates are actively campaigning for your vote, with people canvassing the neighbourhood on foot and seeking to secure votes using social media as a platform for promotion.
Inksplott will invite each person standing to submit an interview, offering an insight for would-be voters into the characters of the candidates.
Just to be clear, if I don’t receive any information, I won’t be able to feature the candidate (back in 2017, I offered interviews to all people and parties standing and posted the responses I received. I got some, erm, questionable comments on social media about why I had ‘favoured’ certain parties, when I had only shared what was received.
Scroll to the end of the article for a list of polling stations in the ward.
But before you do that, remember that you have to register to vote by midnight on November 19th (if you aren’t already registered), which is very simple and can be done here.
So, to the candidates.
