The High Sheriff of South Glamorgan visited Splott today to bestow a special award to local poverty alleviation charity, Splott Community Volunteers.
The award, in recognition of great and valuable services to the community, was received by charity volunteers and trustees, who were delighted to chat to Mrs Janey Howell, current High Sheriff, about the difference the charity makes at a local level.

The Office of High Sheriff is an independent non-political Royal appointment for a single year. The origins of the Office date back to Saxon times, when the ‘Shire Reeve’ was responsible to the king for the maintenance of law and order within the shire, or county, and for the collection and return of taxes due to the Crown. Today, there are 55 High Sheriffs serving the counties of England and Wales each year.
Mrs Howell congratulated the charity on having such passionate staff and volunteers and promised to come back for breakfast one day!
