Councillor Ed Stubbs is running the London Marathon this weekend to raise money for Splott Community Volunteers, an incredible volunteer-run charity helping people cope with the cost of living crisis, food poverty and isolation and loneliness.
Ed is chair of Splott Community Volunteers, or SVC as they are known locally, a charity that supports people in food poverty through a weekly breakfast club and assistance to those most in need.
Because of a huge growth in need, the charity is significantly extending what they do but need to raise funds to keep helping people.
Splott Community Volunteers has recently relocated from the Old Splott Library on Singleton Road to the rear of the STAR Centre on Splott Road (entrance from Railway Street) and runs a weekly breakfast club where people can receive a delicious breakfast, hot drink, a bag of fresh produce, groceries, and toiletries for just £3, plus a friendly community to chat with.
The London Marathon is a gruelling 26 mile race starting in Blackheath and finishing in front of Buckingham Palace. Watch out for Ed on tellybox as he completes the course (starting at 10am).
Ed has a ballot place in the London Marathon and is getting up at 5am three times a week to train. He has raised £385 for Splott Community Volunteers and says that the donations help keep him going on cold mornings!

“Life is getting tougher everywhere and Splott Community Volunteers are supporting more and more people in our new premises, so when I was lucky enough to get a ballot place in the marathon I wanted to use the opportunity it’s to raise money to support SCV. Every penny raised will go to supporting people in Splott and surrounding areas and I am grateful to everyone who has supported me.”
