Here is Lowri’s account of her experience:
As a massive foodie, I was super excited when Mabin announced their first supper club so just had to give it a try.
Let’s get the practical details done first. Ordering was very easy, I ordered via direct message on instagram, but you can also email your order or do so in person at Star Hub where Mabin is based.
Payment was just as easy; I was sent a handy link to pay online. Collection was from Star Hub or for a small fee, you could have the food delivered to your house.
The food can be enjoyed up to 3 days after collection/delivery, which offers great flexibility and longevity.
The menu had vegan, vegetarian and meaty options (other allergens can also be catered for, just mention it when you order). There were two options per course, and you could choose two, three or four courses.
We went for all four of courses which meant my husband and I could try everything on the menu between the two of us.
The food came with simple instructions to reheat at home and most things came in recyclable containers, so after washing them out they can be popped in your green bags. Everything was clearly labelled so you really can’t go wrong.
Now on to the best bit – the food.
Starter – Squash Arancini (just one option here)
One giant rice ball full to the brim with rice and butternut squash – very tasty.
Primi – Beetroot Risotto with Ricotta or Shredded Beef
A very generous portion of beetroot risotto, smooth and creamy which paired well with the ricotta and the beef.
Main – Baked Broccoli with Presto and Grana Padano or Pork Shoulder with Plums
Lovely, soft broccoli topped with a super nutty pesto and grana padano cheese. The pork was really tasty and just fell apart and went well with the plum sauce. Both came with a mountain of spuds and carrots.
Dessert – Bonet & Spiced Pumpkin Cream or Poached Pear, Pistachio Cream and Taralli biscuits
A mega chocolatey bonet (I’ll be honest, I’d never heard of it before) with a calming spiced pumpkin cream. The poached pear was soft like it should be and the pistachio cream a good accompaniment along with the biscuits for texture.
Mabin will be doing a monthly supper club along with pop up small plates in between. I can definitely recommend the Mabin Supper Club, their first one was excellent and really good value for money. Looking forward to seeing what they do next month.
